Newsletter, January 2012
I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday! We certainly had a great one, nothing like Christmas with grandchildren, it makes it so fun! We also had a great December in the shop too, and for that we thank you, our great quilters that support us!
We are very excited to announce some new classes for January and February. Hopefully we have something for everyone. We are also excited about introducing a wonderful instructor, Dana Lewis, to all of our quilters. Dana has been a wonderful friend and mentor for me personally and I know everyone will love her too! Dana lives in Homer, Alaska and for many years owned her own quilt shop. She sold it a few years ago and now teaches every chance she gets and we are so lucky to have her in Missouri for three months to teach us! Also our resident basket maker, Sue Vunesky, is at it again and is offering a quilt tote basket….don’t know any quilter that can’t use a tote for quilts!
First of all, Dana will be teaching a quilt as you go project that she calls ‘Robbing Peter to Pay Paul’. This is a fun quilt done with a wide variety of scraps, or you can use only two fabrics. She will be doing this quilt on Tuesday, January 31st at 6 pm. We expect this class to fill quickly so make your reservation promptly. The cost of the class is $20 and upon payment you will receive you supply sheet.

Secondly, Dana will be doing a technique class in foundation piecing (paper piecing). If you have never paper pieced before, this class is for you! She will do one easy block and even help you with one that is a little more challenging. Even if you have experience with this technique, you will find something worthwhile in this class; Dana had been doing this for a long time and has found lots of short cuts. This class will take place on Friday, February 3rd at 6 pm. The cost of the class is $20 and we will issue you the supply sheet upon payment.
Sue will be weaving her quilt tote basket on Friday, February 10 at 5pm. This basket will be done in black and natural color reed with twill straps. It will easily hold a quilt or two and can be done by a confident beginner. The cost of this class, which includes the basket kit, is $40. $20 will hold your spot for the class with the balance to be paid on the night of the class.

On Friday, February 17th, Dana will be giving another class called ‘Winners Bouquet’. This class is done with templates from the Atkinson Design group and makes a stunning quilt. Even though you are cutting and sewing curves, Dana has lots of hints to make this as easy as possible. You’ll want to use these templates over and over to make stunning quilts of all sizes. Call to make your reservation as this will fill quickly, the cost is $20 and upon payment you will receive your supply list.

We will also be having our 7th annual “Super Bowl of Sewing” on Sunday, February 5th. We have such fun at this event! This year, we’re doing things a little differently. Everyone may bring their own project to work on, or we plan to have some free projects here for you to choose from ahead of time. Also, since it’s hard for many of you to bring in food, along with your machine and supplies, we will be supplying all of the food, just bring yourself something to drink. The cost (to offset the food costs) will be $6. Be sure and call as soon as you can so we can reserve you a spot. We open at 11 am and sew as long as you want…and you will still be home to enjoy the game!
If you are in the area on Valentines’ Day, be sure and stop by…all of our pinks will be 15% off this day only!
Our 8th birthday will be President’s Day, Feb. 20 this year! We are planning cake and balloons and some take and teach classes through out the day.
Just a note to some of our late in the day shoppers, we are closing earlier during the winter months. Unless you call us ahead of time to let us know you are coming by, we will close at 6pm. We don’t mind staying for you, but please call ahead. Also, if we are open on Sundays’, our hours are from 11am to 3 pm. Just call ahead to make sure we’re here! Gas is way too expensive to waste!
I think I’ve taken up enough of your time for now, but be sure and stop in to say hello and please, join us for a class or two!
Piecefully,
Donna
